BJ Services Company: a total solutions provider
From cementing to completions to well interventions, BJ Services offers one of the industry's most complete packages of technical capabilities to enhance oil and gas field development programs. Skilled BJ personnel provide the engineering expertise and advanced technology needed to minimize non-productive time and ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations.
Following are examples of BJ's diverse technology solutions:
- BJ offers a variety of Set for Life™ cementing products aimed at ensuring long-term isolation for normal to extremely challenging wellbores. For example, LiteSet™ low-density slurries are formulated to prevent lost circulation in weak formations. EnviroSet™ slurries feature environmentally acceptable additives that pose little or no risk as defined by North Sea (PLONOR) regulations. XtremeSet™ cement technology includes cement retarders and other additives designed to perform in wells with bottomhole temperatures to 600°F (315°C) and pressures to 30,000 psi (200 MPa).
- Combining state-of-the-art slurry density control with new safety and automation features and critical component redundancy, high-performance BJ Seahawk™ offshore cement units provide a high level of physical and operational flexibility. Standard components include next-generation mixers and Automatic Cement Control systems which ensure consistent slurries, typically without the need for auxiliary batch mixers.
- The TekTote™ skid offers a safe and efficient means of transporting and handling pre-blended TekPlug™ fluid-loss systems. The skid is easy to rig up, and the fluid requires no additional mixing before pumping.
- Each bottom-hole assembly in the BJ ComPlete™ family of single-trip completion systems performs all critical completion tasks with just one trip into the wellbore. The latest addition to this technology family is the multi-zone single trip (MST) system. The result is reduced cycle time -- and cost. As much as 25 to 60 percent savings are possible, depending on the number of zones the operator chooses to complete.
- Selective Hydraulically Actuated Remote Production (SHARP™) intelligent completion systems selectively control flow of multiple producing or injection zones in a well without mechanical well intervention.
- For extended-reach gravel packing in areas with high fluid losses or difficult frac gradients, the low settling velocities of ultra-lightweight proppants in a LitePack™ service enable successful completions where other technologies fail.
- Engineered, value-added SandChek™ services are used in completing “soft” formations that require sand control technologies. Depending on formation characteristics, fit-for-purpose SandChek treatments may include chemical fines and clay stabilizers; FlexSand™ specialty proppant or resin-coated proppants that helps prevent crushing, embedment and fines generation from stresses during production.
- BJ Sandstone Acid™ solutions contain a special organic acid and produce a delayed reaction on clay minerals, significantly slowing the HF acid reaction rate. This minimizes unconsolidation of the formation in the wellbore area by spreading the acid reaction over a larger area. The result is deeper damage removal and a higher production increase over conventional, retarded HF acidizing methods.
- No-polymer AquaStar™ viscoelastic surfactant-based fracturing fluids are non-damaging to the proppant pack. ElastraFrac™ fluid is a cost-effective alternative for clean fractures and gravel packs with minimal formation damage in operations with temperatures reaching more than 250°F (121°C).
- For deep-penetrating fracture treatments using slickwater, LiteProp™ ultra-lightweight proppants achieve excellent conductivity and long-term results.
- StimPlus™ services address long-term production issues by adding chemicals, such as ScaleSorb™ or ParaSorb™ scale and paraffin inhibitors, during a hydraulic fracture treatment to stop problems deep in the reservoir, before they reach the critical near-wellbore area.
- For water management in mature and water-saturated fields, AquaCon™ relative permeability modifier preferentially impairs the ability of water to pass through pore throats with minimal effects on hydrocarbon permeability. May be applied in either remedial or primary frac applications.
- To optimize reservoir stimulation execution, OptiFrac™ services deploy a jetting tool on coiled tubing to safely create clean perforations, and then pump an engineered fracture treatment down the casing/coiled tubing annulus.
- Coiled tubing-conveyed Roto-Jet® tool and nozzles provide the most effective high-energy pressure jetting for tough wellbore deposits. Used with Roto-Pulse™ methodology, the tool safely cleans gravel packs and screens, even perf tunnels.
- BJ’s patented Tornado® tool efficiently sweeps virtually all obstructing solids from the wellbore, even from extended-reach horizontal wells.
- Ice-Chek™ inhibitors control gas hydrate formation and remove accumulations caused by temperature and pressure changes in wells or pipelines. This proprietary low-dose solution synergistically blends thermodynamic, anti-agglomerate and kinetic chemicals to provide highly efficient control in normal and extreme conditions.
- InsulGel™ packer fluids, as a flow assurance product, provides insulation against temperature changes due to shut-ins or other operations, minimizing cooling effects from conduction and convection.
- BJ Dyna-Coil™ capillary tubing technology provides a dedicated flow path to inject chemicals, such as hydrate, paraffin, scale inhibitors or foamers, near the perforations in a wellbore. For wells that require surface-controlled subsurface safety valves (SCSSVs) or injection below a production packer, InjectSafe™ technology provides subsurface isolation and/or alternative injection flow path with integral capillary tubing to allow continuous chemical treatment.
- The award-winning Rigless Intervention System (RIS) reduces the time and expense associated with new wells by pre-installing conductors before the drilling rig arrives. The RIS handles the joints so conductors can be driven with hydraulic hammers, such as BJ's Hydrohammer system. For well abandonment, the system can be placed on fixed platforms to significantly speed the process of extracting casing and conductors from multiple wells.
In the hands of BJ experts, technology routinely improves well construction and completion, improving production and extending the useful life of wells under virtually any conditions. As operators push the envelope, BJ makes sure its capabilities keep pace.
